Gobbin mukaan Italiasta Sveitsiin tulevien turvapaikanhakijoiden ja laittomien maahanmuuttajien määrä on kaksinkertaistunut viime vuodesta. Yhtenä syynä pidetään sitä, että Ranska on alkanut suhtautua aiempaa tiukemmin Italiasta sinne pyrkiviin siirtolaisiin, eikä maahan ole enää yhtä helppo päästä kuin ennen.
